“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-hyuk and star Lee Jung-jae have won Emmy awards for their work on the dystopian hit show.
Hwang won Outstanding Directing and Lee Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday.
Hwang is the first Korean director to win an Emmy in a non-English drama, and Lee is the second actor after fellow “Squid Game” actress Lee You-mi, who received a Creative Arts Emmy award last week.
Lee attended the ceremony with his girlfriend Lim Se-ryong and held hands with her on the red carpet. Lim, a conglomerate heiress, has been dating Lee since 2015.
The eldest daughter of Daesang Group chairman Lim Chang-wook, Lim is also the second largest shareholder of the group. She married Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong in 1998, but the two divorced in 2009. They have a son and daughter.
