The new drama “Born Again” is set to premiere at 10p.m. on April 20. It will be a mystery melodrama that follows the story of three people and the fate that ties them together across two separate lives through reincarnation.
To be specific, “Born Again” tells the story of a detective, the detective’s lover, and a serial killer who was in love with the detective’s lover. Death becomes a fresh start for them as they reincarnate into a prosecutor, an archeology instructor, and a medical student, rekindling their entangled fates. Jang Ki Yong, Jin Se Yeon, and Lee Soo Hyuk play two different characters each across two separate lives.
Jang Ki Yong plays the lonely wolf Gong Ji Chul in 1986, who refuses to share the fate of his utterly evil father. In 2020, Gong transforms to the elite medical student Chung Jong Bum.
Jin Se Yeon represents both Jung Ha Eun in the 1980s and Jung Sa Bin in the present. Jung Ha Bin is an owner of the secondhand bookstore The Old Future, which seems somewhat befitting the theme of reincarnation in the drama. Unfortunately, she suffers from dilated cardiomyopathy.
The first teaser shows a man walking through a snowy white field in the 1980s, along with Jin Se Yeon smiling warmly. The new stills give off a retro vibe as Jung Ha Eun is surrounded by densely stacked books, a lamp, a teapot, and a basket filled with fruit. Jung Ha Bin is writing something down, listening to music coming from a cassette player. Lost deep in thought, her gaze comes off as reminiscent, which makes viewers recall their first love. In another still, Jung Ha Eun is standing under the bookstore’s sign, holding a yellow umbrella on a snowy day. She draws curiosity on if she was waiting for something as she stares at her side.
Lee Soo Hyuk’s first character is the pure-hearted detective Cha Hyung Bin form the 1980s, while his second is the cool-headed prosecutor Kim Soo Hyuk, Cha’s modern-day reincarnation. Two weeks ago, the upcoming drama unveiled a sneak peek of Lee Soo Hyuk in the first of his dual roles. Cha Hyung Bin, who only has eyes for one woman, glances up from a book with a warm, innocent gaze, dressed in a 1980s police uniform. Another photo shows the character looking over a crime scene with a serious look, piquing viewers’ curiosity. It is said that viewers will be enthralled with his two different charms right off the bat as the drama advances.
The drama will be produced by Director Jin Hyung Wook and written by Scriptwriter Jung Soo Mi.
The production staff of “Born Again” commented, “Lee Soo Hyuk was able to stylishly pull off his 1980’s costumes, and his retro fashion will an another fun element in light of entertainment of the drama.”
Viewers are already looking forward to the melodrama that will be portrayed by the trio who has captivated fandom with their surpassing looks. They shout that “Born Again” is just around the corner!
